As we enjoy these blessings, we realize that there is a world of people who have not been as fortunate as we are. As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations, one of our plans is to reach out to the less fortunate people through different projects. Our goal is to use these projects to reach out to the people in the most backward areas of our state.

Attappady Mission (Part 1): An Interview with Rev Fr MD John and Rev Fr S
0 comments Posted by St.Gregorios Austin Media Blog at 6:47 PMThe St.Thomas Attappady Mission is one of the missionary focus of the Malankara (Indian) Orthodox Church to serve the poor and adivasi's of Attappady.
The St. Thomas mission, Attappady has done an incredible job under the leadership of HH Baselios Mar Thoma Didymos 1, (the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan) and the dedicated care takers to reachout to the people of Attappady. Attappady is an extremely backward area of Kerala. The mission operates schools, hospitals, balabhavans to serve the people of Attappady.
In a casual interview, Rev. Fr MD John (Superior, St.Thomas Ashram, Attappady) and Rev Fr S Paul (Director) talks about how the mission was started and has progressed through the years.

Trusting the Lord, the caretakers of Attapaddy Orphange took on a big dream to regain the speach and talking abilities of these children by doing a surgery and a cochlear implant at a cost of 12 lakhs. (something nearly impossible for an orphanage in a remote place like Attapaddy) People across the world extended their helping hand and the Lord provided everything for the surgery. "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a great mystery, and I am applying it to Christ and the church. Each of you, however, should love his wife as himself, and a wife should respect her husband." - Ephesians 5:31-33
Marriage is a sacrament. In marriage two people are bought together in love, mutual respect and commitment. A husband and a wife are called by the Holy Spirit not only to live together but also to share their Christian life together. The purpose of marriage is to recieve the blessings of God and to be part of creation of new life.

It continues to do a wonderful job in providing our students a christian orientation and helps them overcome the challenges in a world that is filled with external influences.
Rev. Fr. V.M. Abraham is the General Secretary of the MGOCSM. He is an excellent speaker and a dedicated young priest of the Indian Orthodox Church. He has been very active in continuing the good work that MGOCSM has been doing for the students in all parts of the world.
This interview will particularly focus on the challenges of MGOCSM going forward in addition to shedding light on the past, the present challenges of MGOCSM.

Geevarghese Mar Osthathios Thirumeni is the president of the Mission board and Mission Society of the Indian Orthodox Church (IOC). ... all » The Mission board is the governing body that oversees the mission activities of the IOC in the most backward areas of India.
IOC has always been a strong proponent of embracing the greatest teaching of Christ. Its mission to reach out to the needy has touched many hearts and continues to do so everyday. Under the leadership of H.G. Geevarghese Mar Osthathios thirumeni, the mission of IOC has grown tremendously over the years and has been the source of hope to many. Thirumeni's hands and his mission have reached the underprivileged of the society and has spanned from Puthupaddy, Kerala to Kalahandi, Orissa.
The Mission Society operates numerous orphanages, old age homes and other charitable institutions. It also operates a mission training center to train the missionaries of IOC. The Mission Society has played a pivotal role during the relief work and rebuilding of lives during and after natural calamities and other emergencies.

Idukki is the most financial backward diocese of the Indian Orthodox Church. The interview is an attempt to educate the people about the facts of Idukki. On one hand, Idukki is a very beautiful place, and on the other hand, the people of Idukki lack even the basic necessities of life.
In the last 2 years since Thirumeni has taken charge of Idukki, there has a diligent effort to address many of the issues faced by the people. He has provided effective leadership for the reconstruction of churches that were virtually unusable due to the old and decayed state of the churches and for other projects benefiting the people of Idukki. This interview will also provide an update on these projects.

The mission of the project is to facilitate caring and sharing for financially poor students to achieve the dream of higher education by providing educational assistance.
The scholarships for REAP 2006 were handed over by H.G. Augen Mar Dionysius, Metropolitan of Idduki Diocese on 07 Dec 2006 to the selected candidates.
